Language documentation with context
Madhaaf is a research documentation platform founded by Farhan Abdulla for work on Mombasa and Ethiopian Kutchi. The project brings language data together with historical and cultural research. TokenWorks contributes research infrastructure and technical support; Madhaaf is not presented as a TokenWorks-owned product or an institutionally sponsored program.
More than a list of words
The project scope includes dictionary development, linguistic studies, historical research, and cultural documentation. These forms of scholarship benefit from being connected: a dictionary entry can raise a linguistic question, while a historical source can provide context for how language is used and remembered.
Preserving provenance and authorship
Research media and provenance form part of the documentation approach. Attribution belongs with the work: Farhan Abdulla’s founding role and research authorship, together with individual contributor acknowledgements, should remain visible. Technical support is not a transfer of scholarly ownership. Public previews must exclude private family records and unpublished research media.
